  • 1 1/2 cups uncooked sushi rice
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 teaspoons toasted black sesame seeds
  • 2 teaspoons sesame oil
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • Nori sheets (optional)

Instructions

  1. Wash the uncooked sushi rice under running water until clear. Combine the rice and water in a rice cooker or pot and cook until done.
  2. Once cooked, mix in toasted sesame seeds and sesame oil. Allow it to cool until manageable.
  3. Wet your hands and mold about 1/2 cup of rice into triangular shapes.
  4. In a small bowl, combine soy sauce, rice vinegar, and sugar until dissolved.
  5. Heat a lightly oiled skillet over medium heat and grill each onigiri for about 2-3 minutes per side until crispy.
  6. Brush both sides of the onigiri with the soy mixture to caramelize slightly before serving.
