Indulge in the nostalgic delight of homemade candy apples with red food coloring. These vibrant treats feature a glossy, crackly shell that beautifully contrasts with the tartness of fresh apples, making them an irresistible choice for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 medium apples
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup corn syrup
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon red food coloring
  • 8 wooden sticks
  • Non-stick cooking spray

Instructions

  1. Thoroughly wash and dry the apples. Insert a wooden stick into the top of each apple until secure.
  2. In a saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, and water. Bring to a boil over medium heat while stirring until the sugar dissolves.
  3. Stop stirring once it boils and let it cook until it reaches the hard crack stage (300°F or 150°C). Remove from heat and quickly stir in red food coloring.
  4. Dip each apple into the candy mixture, allowing excess to drip off before placing on a greased baking sheet.
  5. Let the candy apples cool completely at room temperature before serving.
