Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 small to medium Granny Smith or Gala apples
  • 8 wooden sticks
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon red gel or liquid food coloring
  • 1/8 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 3 ounces white chocolate, chopped or chips
  • 1 teaspoon coconut oil

Instructions

  1. Prepare your workstation by lining a baking sheet with parchment paper and inserting wooden sticks into the stem end of each washed and dried apple.
  2. In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, water, and cream of tartar. Stir gently until mixed.
  3. Heat the mixture over medium heat without stirring until it boils.
  4. When it reaches 250°F, add the red food coloring and swirl the pan gently.
  5. Continue boiling until the temperature reaches 300°F. Remove from heat immediately.
  6. Dip each apple quickly into the hot candy coating, allowing excess to drip off before placing on the prepared baking sheet.
  7. Let them set for about 10 minutes while you melt the white chocolate with coconut oil in a microwave-safe bowl.
  8. Drizzle melted white chocolate over cooled candy apples using a spoon or piping bag. Let set for another 10 minutes before serving.
